Rover egg donors at the Wijnland Ova bank are also commonly known or referred to as travel donors at other institutions. At Wijnland Fertility, all our egg donors are very important and special to us. Our travel donors have been dubbed “Rovers”. A Rover is someone who loves to travel, wander, or change their location. Being a Wijnland Rover donor entails exactly that!
Rovers get the chance to travel from their home province to the beautiful student town of Stellenbosch, in the Western Cape. The travel experience is an absolute bonus as Stellenbosch is surrounded by winelands, great restaurants, and other exciting things to do.
Rover donors are egg donors who do not reside within the Western Cape or close to Stellenbosch (within 100km radius). Therefore, they need to travel from their home of residence (Gauteng, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London, FreeState etc.) to Stellenbosch for the donation cycle. Please note that you have to be a South-African resident to qualify as a Wijnland donor.
The first step is to fill out an application form.
Once we receive the application form and you meet all the requirements to be an egg donor, we will contact you to schedule a virtual appointment. This meeting will consist of an information session to ensure that you understand all the aspects of the process and that you are comfortable. It also serves as an opportunity for us to get to know you a bit better
After we have conducted the information session and received all the necessary documentation, we will need to make an appointment with a Wijnland acquainted fertility specialist or gynecologist for a medical screening. The medical screening will involve a gynaecological examination and a series of blood tests (for STD’s and relevant hormonal levels). If all is normal, the donation process may commence. We will make your profile available to recipients before the donation cycle. Once you profile is chosen, you are ready to donate!
Travel donors will be on standby for their donation cycle. Once the recipient cycle is planned, the donation cycle is ready to start and the donor will be contacted in advance to inform them. Donors will start their cycle and medication in their home province and only travel to Stellenbosch for approximately 7-10days for the final scans and oocyte retrieval procedure.
All travel and accommodation costs for the time in Stellenbosch are covered by the clinic. The donor will also receive a daily allowance for the days that they reside in Stellenbosch. Once you have completed your donation cycle, you will travel back home and will be remunerated for your time and effort.
