Egg donors that apply at our clinic, sometimes reside in a different province within South-Africa. These donors are called “travel donors”. Therefore, these donors need to fly in and out of Cape Town for their donation cycle.
Choosing an egg donor can be very challenging. Once patients find the ideal donor that suits their needs and preferences, they form a special connection with the donor. If this donor happens to be a travel donor, a recipient could expect additional costs. This is because the travel donor cycles are more expensive, due to the donor’s travel and accommodation expenses that result in additional costs. You can expect an additional travel fee of approximately R17 000, if you choose a travel donor.
To apply for an egg donor, the first step is usually to contact the egg bank via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org / email@example.com or telephonically on 021 882 9666 to enquire about applying for an egg donor. You and your partner (if applicable) will then complete a medical questionnaire.
Our donor bank coordinators will then arrange an information session with you and your partner to discuss the process in terms of ethical and legal implications, when making use of donor gametes in South Africa. This is also important as you and your partner can discuss with us what you are looking for in a donor and we then go to our bank to find a few candidates we think would match your needs. The information session is free of charge.
If you would like to reserve a donor, a deposit is payable in advance. Please contact our donor bank for more information regarding
